Jurgen Klopp has plenty of pressure at Liverpool but should get all the time he needs to turn things around.
The problem that Jurgen Klopp has is that when he was finding his
feet at Borussia Dortmund, he was doing so under a relatively small
amount of pressure. The club had enormous crowds and a relatively recent
glorious history, but three years earlier they had been on the brink of
bankruptcy, and in the season before he took over they finished three
places above the relegation zone. It wasn't exactly a managerial
apprenticeship in some obscure backwater, but it's fair to say
expectations were lower and he was allowed to bring in, and carefully
develop, players such as Mats Hummels, Mario Gotze and Robert
Lewandowski.
With Liverpool, there is an expectation from some quarters of
immediate success. The fevered nature of the Premier League and football
on Merseyside demands results. But in reality he probably has a bit
more time and leeway than first appears. Success for Klopp this season
would be a better finish than last term under Brendan Rodgers, and since
they are only six points off fourth place with 28 games remaining, such
an achievement doesn't look out of the question. He will need time, but
the balance between patience and myriad demands might be just right for
him in his early days at Anfield.
