Why did nobody else try to sign Andre Ayew?
Playing for Swansea is a pretty good gig. They're an excellent team and a superbly run club who have consistency of thinking and a brilliant collective eye for a bargain. However, there are more prestigious teams and clubs higher up the food chain than them, all desperately trying to sniff out an edge over their rivals, which is why it's surprising that none of the sides with slightly loftier ambitions spotted what a fine signing Andre Ayew would be in the summer.
Ayew was available on a free transfer as his contract at Marseille expired, and Swansea could probably hardly believe their luck when they snapped a player of his quality up for zero pounds in transfer fees. Ayew would be a squad player for the absolute elite, but he would have been perfect for Tottenham, who required a freshening of their forward line in the summer, or Liverpool. Even Man United's squad would have been improved with the dynamism of Ayew in their ranks. Still, maybe Ayew just reasoned that he'd be happier at Swansea and they would be more beneficial for his career.
It's difficult to argue too strongly with such a conclusion.
