Sometimes, gambles pay off
Next season West Ham move to the Olympic Stadium, and in such shiny new surroundings, Premier League football is a must or else a lot of people would look very silly indeed. While one cannot necessarily plan these things out precisely, there was a definite sense that West Ham's relationship with Allardyce had run its course. Replacing the sure thing with Slaven Bilic was a pretty significant risk for the Hammers, but it's one that appears to be paying off very nicely.
With a combination of shrewd signings, such as Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini, and a different managerial approach, West Ham sit in the Champions League places under Bilic after 10 games, playing exciting football and with a stack of high-profile scalps on their record. It's still early, but David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady putting their faith in Bilic looks like a risk well taken.
